May 8, 2022
Dear Preschool Families,
Happy Mother’s Day! I hope all our PVS Moms are being pampered and get a well-deserved break today! I cannot believe we only have two and a half weeks of school left. The 2021-2022 school year has gone by so fast! I have seen tremendous growth in all our students especially as we conclude our first year using our Second-Step Social-Emotional Curriculum. Social-emotional learning is helpful to both children and adults, increasing self-awareness, academic achievement, and positive behaviors both in and out of the classroom. From an academic standpoint, students who participated in SEL programs saw an 11 percentile increase in their overall grades and better attendance. It is our goal to send our Pre-K students to Kindergarten with skills that will follow them throughout their lives.
I also wanted to take a moment and recognize Mrs. Becky Chaffins for the dedication and love she has given to Palm Valley School in her 24 years at our school. Her last day in the Coyote classroom will be Friday, May 13th. Ms. Tingey will lead the classroom in our final weeks of school. We wish her the best in her retirement!
A huge thank you to our Parent Association Vice President, Lauren Tahvilian. You have provided our faculty and students with an abundance of help and support throughout this school year. I personally know the amount of work you are putting into our End of the Year parties and it does not go unnoticed. Thank you, Lauren!
PK Promotion Rehearsals and Ceremony
On Monday, May 23rd, and Tuesday, May 24th, we ask that all PK promoting students be present at school by 8:30 am. We will be conducting rehearsals in the gym and every student must be in attendance. The promotion ceremony will be on Thursday, May 26th at 10:00 am in our school gym. We ask that all our promoting students arrive at school no later than 8:30 am on this day as well. If you haven’t done so already, please email me your RSVP for the event with how many people will be attending. This will allow me to ensure we have enough chairs set up on the day of.
End of the Year Parties
It is a tradition that on one of the last few days of school, our Parent Association puts together an End of the Year party for our students. Mrs. Lauren Tahvilian, our PA representative, is planning a fun water day on Wednesday, May 25th. All students will be asked to come to school with a towel and wear their bathing suits. We also ask that you apply sunscreen on your child prior to coming to school that day. For our younger students who are still in diapers, please bring in at least 2 water diapers for our faculty to use for your child.
Preschool Summer Camp
We were able to open up a few more spots for our 8 weeks of Summer Camp. The age range that we have space for is our 2-year-olds to the 5-year-old classroom. Once we fill up the number of spots, I will be dividing the students up into different classrooms and between our two preschool buildings based on age. As a reminder, our Summer Camp runs from 8 am-4 pm starting June 6th-July 29th.
