December 5, 2021

Dear Middle and Upper School families,

Time Flies
It is hard to believe that we only have two weeks until the end of the first semester. Final semester grades and comments will be sent home on Friday, January 14. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Winter Break, and I look forward to seeing students return on Monday, January 3.

PA Meeting
The last Parent Association Meeting for 2021 will be at 9:00 am on Tuesday, December 7. You can join the virtual meeting by selecting this link.

Elizabeth Etebar: Golden West College; Jesse Denyer: The University of Alabama and Colorado State University; Jane White: The University of Calgary.

Poetry Recitation Winners
Congratulations to Palm Valley School’s US Poetry Recitation winner: Senior Isabella Goetschel. Isabella recited “Epitaph” by 17th-century poet Katherine Philips. Second Place went to Sophomore Indy Behr with a recitation of “be careful” by poet Ed Roberson. The Third Place recitation went to Freshman Lily Jones with “Poor Angels” by poet Edward Hirsch. Isabella will advance to Riverside County Poetry Out Loud as our Palm Valley School representative. There, she will recite two poems before a panel of judges. If she wins, she advances to the State Poetry Out Loud competition. Indiana serves as our alternate.

2021 Palm Springs Holiday Banner Art Program Winners
Palm Springs area students from Kindergarten through 12th grade submitted original drawings hoping to be among those chosen to have their artwork become one of the newly created holiday banners that line Palm Canyon Drive during the winter holiday season. Out of the over 600 submissions, 50 were selected, and 5 of those were from our Middle and Upper school students. Congratulations to Cierra Carr, Rylie Conway, Sophie Zhong, Harliana Otto, and Lily Jones. Special thanks to Mr. Timothy Kroe for facilitating this opportunity for our students.

We are still accepting sign-ups for high school girls basketball and boys baseball.
Anyone in grades 6-12 interested in Esports see Mr. Erenberg.
The fall sports banquet will be on Thursday, December 9, from 6-8 pm in the gym; food will be served. All fall athletes and families are invited. The banquet is for cross country, flag football, and volleyball teams.

Community Service Hours
Community Service hours are required of all Upper School students. Opportunities are built into activities through school-wide and club-sponsored initiatives. In addition, some student clubs require service work that can be applied towards the required hours. Outside of school, students are encouraged to get involved with approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations in the Coachella Valley that align with their interests. Please send proof of your child’s service hours to the MUS Administrative Assistant, Ms. Taylor Kady, at musoffice@pvs.org. Ms. Kady is documenting all community service hours.

You can find information about purchasing a yearbook here.

Spirit Store
PVS Spirit Store is open every Thursday morning from 7:30–9:00 am. The Spirit Store is now selling an exceptional Firebird Blend Coffee created for our families by a PVS family. It is delicious! If Thursday mornings do not work for you, please email spiritstore@pvs.org, and they will do their best to accommodate you.
